GREEN GLOBE

 

At Yalo, we care about our people, our community, our environment and our planet. As a member of the Green Globe Society we are committed to receiving this ambitious certificate on all-round sustainability policies. As Green Globe member we aim to be good for our society and our environment. Green Globe is the global certification for sustainable tourism. During annual audits, our policies are checked to save energy and water, reduce our impact on our planet and positively contribute to the local society. Green Label Service guides us with our sustainability journey and is an expert in sustainability for hospitality.

 

We’d like to share some examples of our green efforts with you. Some of them are visible and easy to find yourself, while others are ‘hidden’ behind the scenes.

 

 

RESPECTING THE ENVIRONMENT

 

Energy

For the warm water supply in the hotel, there are solar panels on the roof. There is an energy-card in guestrooms to avoid unnecessary use of energy such as lights and heating/cooling. We have LED energy-saving lights and light sensors.

 

Water

We change towels in the guest rooms on request. We change bed linen on request or after three nights. Without compromising on comfort, our showers and water taps are water-saving.

 

CO₂

The green roof reduces CO2. There are soon to be electric car charging facilities in our parking.

 

Responsible products

We prefer fresh, local food that is tasty. When possible, organic too.

For example, we work with suppliers such as Dierendonck, De Jager, Claessens and plenty of others who support our sustainability vision.

Certified environmentally friendly paper products. We use biodegradable cleaning products. All printed materials (although we prefer digital!) are made on environmentally friendly paper and ink is based on vegetable oils. Grown Alchemist bathroom products in dispensers (yes, less plastic!) are free from harmful ingredients.

 

Supporting the locals

We prefer local food and beverage suppliers. Such as our local wine which is produced with grapes from Lochristi, just outside Ghent. Our Guest Directory gives many suggestions for great local shops and restaurants.

 

Social involvement

We encourage growth of our employees so they can take advantage of various training opportunities. Yalo is planning on giving back to the community by supporting local causes, either financially or by helping out wherever possible.

 

 

HOW CAN YOU CONTRIBUTE?

If you choose to re-use your bed linen, you will decide to support a good cause. Explore the city by bike! You can rent orange shared bikes of Donkey Republic at various sites in the city. We’ve made a route to enjoy a run in the neighbourhood.
