Walk 1: like a local
If there’s one event that truly captures the spirit of Châtelain, it’s the Wednesday market on Place du Châtelain. Every Wednesday from 2 pm to 7 pm, the square fills with local producers, fresh flowers, seasonal delicacies and neighbourhood favourites. As the afternoon turns into evening, the market effortlessly transforms into one of Brussels’ favourite aperitif spots, with locals gathering on the surrounding terraces to soak up the evening sun.
Weekends are equally worth experiencing. Browse the antiques at the Grand Sablon Market, wander through the nearby vintage and antique shops, then settle down for a coffee on one of the many terraces. It’s one of our favourite ways to enjoy a leisurely weekend in Brussels.
As the afternoon fades into evening, make your way to Pepete & Ronron, just off Place du Châtelain. This lively neighbourhood favourite is the perfect spot for an aperitif, serving Mediterranean-inspired tapas, natural wines and offering a sun-drenched terrace that quickly fills with locals after work.
Round off your day with dinner at Odette en Ville. This refined restaurant combines Belgian hospitality with contemporary cuisine in an intimate and elegant setting. It’s the perfect finale to a day spent discovering one of Brussels’ most charming neighbourhoods.
Walk 2: through artist’s eyes
Creativity runs through the streets of Châtelain. Begin your gallery walk at Xavier Hufkens, one of Europe’s leading contemporary art galleries, where works by internationally renowned artists are exhibited alongside emerging talent.
Continue to Gisèle Croës, a gallery celebrated for its remarkable collection of ancient Chinese art. For more than forty-five years, it has earned an international reputation for the quality and rarity of its collection.
Just a short walk away, Patrick Claes Gallery presents an impressive collection of classical Central African art through carefully curated exhibitions that offer fresh perspectives on culture and history.
After a day immersed in creativity, settle in at Old Boy for dinner. Expect bold South-East Asian flavours, house-made curry pastes, spice-driven dishes and a fire-led cooking experience, all served with plenty of personality.
Finish your evening at Le Stoefer, a great cocktail bar known for its inventive drinks and welcoming atmosphere. Whether you opt for one of its signature cocktails or an excellent alcohol-free creation, it’s the perfect place to let the day sink in.
Walk 3: trip down memory lane
Brussels is a city where architecture, history and culture meet on almost every corner. Begin your journey by following one of the city’s celebrated Art Nouveau or Art Deco walking routes, where elegant façades and hidden architectural details tell the story of Brussels’ golden age of design.
Your next stop is BOZAR, Brussels’ iconic Centre for Fine Arts. Home to world-class exhibitions, concerts and performances, it remains one of the city’s most important cultural landmarks.
Continue to Villa Empain, an architectural masterpiece surrounded by tranquil gardens. This beautifully restored Art Deco villa hosts changing exhibitions that bring together art, design and cultural heritage in a truly unique setting.
Before making your way back towards Châtelain, take time to visit the Van Buuren Museum & Gardens. Built in 1928, this intimate Art Deco residence combines remarkable interiors with peaceful gardens, offering one of Brussels’ most enchanting cultural experiences.
